Our Story
Beautiful Smiles Family Dental Center was founded in 2005 by Dr. Joseph Graver with a clear purpose: to build a practice where clinical excellence and genuine compassion go hand in hand. After honing his skills at Tri-Hill Family Dentistry in York, Dr. Graver saw an opportunity to create something different at 564 Old York Road.
What sets us apart is our commitment to a diverse, professional, patient-centered environment. We invest in advanced training, including board-certified anesthesiology, so that patients who experience dental anxiety can receive the care they need in complete comfort. From toddlers visiting for their first cleaning to grandparents maintaining lifelong oral health, every member of the family is welcome here.
Over the past two decades, we have grown into a practice that families across Etters, Harrisburg, York, and the surrounding communities trust and return to, year after year.

Dr. Joseph Graver was born and raised in North Codorus Township, just southwest of York, Pennsylvania. After graduating from Spring Grove Area High School, he served a two-year proselyting mission in Southern Italy, an experience that deepened his appreciation for different cultures and the importance of service to others.
He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Botany from Brigham Young University in 1997, then pursued his Doctorate in Dental Surgery at West Virginia University, graduating in 2002. Following dental school, he completed a residency in Anesthesiology at St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx, New York, equipping him with specialized training that very few general dentists possess.
In 2015, Dr. Graver earned his Board Certification from the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology (ADSA). This distinction means he can provide the full spectrum of sedation options right in the office, from mild oral sedation to deep IV sedation, so patients who have historically avoided the dentist due to fear or anxiety can finally receive the care they deserve, comfortably and safely.
Dr. Graver began his dental career at Tri-Hill Family Dentistry in York before opening Beautiful Smiles Family Dental Center in 2005. Over twenty years later, the practice has become a cornerstone of the Etters community.
Dr. Graver has been married to Tara for over 30 years. They have six grown children and a growing number of grandchildren. When he is not caring for patients, you can find him outdoors, whether that means RVing with the family, gardening and preserving produce through canning and freezing, camping and hiking, or enjoying water sports. He also has a passion for playing the piano, traveling, and working on cars.

CFO / Office Administrator
Born in Illinois, Tara earned her Associates in Office Education in 1993. She manages payroll, accounts payable, and patient care coordination, keeping everything running smoothly behind the scenes. Married to Dr. Graver for over 30 years, she brings a personal touch to every interaction at the office.
Dental Hygienist
Originally from northern Pennsylvania, Elaine has been part of the Beautiful Smiles family since 2010. Her gentle approach and warm personality make patients feel right at home. She is married to Matt, and together they have three children.
Dental Hygienist
A Dover, PA native, Aileni earned her Associates in Dental Hygiene from HACC in 2015. She lives in Newberry with her husband and their dogs, and brings a meticulous yet gentle touch to every cleaning and exam.
Dental Assistant
Jennifer comes to us from Woodbine, Maryland. She holds a radiology certification earned in 2019 and a DANB infection control certification. Her attention to detail and patient-first attitude make her an invaluable part of the clinical team.
Associate Dentist
Patients consistently praise Dr. Koop as "amazing" and appreciate that he is always willing to take the time to answer questions thoroughly. His calm, patient-focused approach and clinical excellence make him a wonderful addition to the practice.
Dental visits can feel stressful, especially for younger patients or anyone who deals with dental anxiety. That is exactly why Nephi is here. Our resident therapy dog graduated boot camp with honors from Alpha Pak K9s and holds a Canine Good Citizen certificate from the American Kennel Club.
Nephi has a calming presence that puts patients of all ages at ease. Whether a child needs a furry friend to pet before their first appointment or an adult just wants some tail-wagging encouragement, Nephi is ready. He is a beloved part of the Beautiful Smiles experience and one of the reasons our patients actually look forward to coming to the dentist.
